BPAY has moved money for Australians since 1997, and it still turns up in a handful of offshore casino cashiers. It is not fast. It is not clever. But the money leaves your own bank account, the payment lands on your statement as an ordinary bill, and more than 150 Australian banks and credit unions carry the service.

The ranking below covers casinos that accept Australian punters, sorted on payout speed, licence quality and how straight their cashier pages are. Read the section on bank blocking before you commit money, because BPAY support at offshore sites moves around from one month to the next.

What BPAY actually does when you pay a casino

BPAY is a bill payment rail, not a wallet and not a card. You log in to your own internet banking or your bank app, choose the pay anyone or pay bill screen, then enter two numbers that the casino gives you.

The first number is the biller code. It is usually four to six digits and it identifies the business collecting the money. The second is the CRN, short for Customer Reference Number. That one is yours alone, and it is how the casino works out which account to credit when the funds arrive. Get the CRN wrong and your deposit lands in the wrong place, or it bounces back days later.

The service began in 1997 as a joint venture between the four major banks. BPAY Group folded into Australian Payments Plus in 2021, alongside eftpos and the New Payments Platform. Around 60,000 billers use it, mostly councils, insurers, phone companies and utilities. Casinos are a small and awkward corner of that list.

Why the plumbing matters to punters

BPAY rides on batch settlement, not real time settlement. Your bank collects payment instructions during the day, closes the batch at a cut-off time, then sends the lot overnight. PayID works the other way, over the New Payments Platform, and clears in seconds at any hour.

That difference explains almost every complaint about BPAY at casinos. The money is safe. The money is traceable. The money is also sitting in a queue while you wait to play.

BPAY deposit timing, fees and limits in plain numbers

Most Australian banks charge nothing to send a BPAY payment from a transaction or savings account. The casino may add its own fee, though the majority do not bother for deposits above about A$20.

Cut-off times are the part people get wrong. Each bank sets its own, and they are earlier than you would expect.

BankTypical BPAY cut-off on a business dayPayment on Saturday or Sunday
Commonwealth BankAround 6pm AEST for same day processingQueued, processed the next business day
NABAround 6pm AESTQueued
ANZAround 6pm AESTQueued
WestpacAround 6pm AESTQueued
Bendigo and AdelaideLate afternoon, varies by channelQueued
INGLate afternoonQueued
BankwestAround 6pm AWSTQueued
MacquarieLate afternoonQueued

Cut-off times change and banks do not always publish them clearly. Treat the table as a guide and check your own bank app on the payment confirmation screen, which normally states the processing date before you hit send.

Is a BPAY casino payment treated as a cash advance

Not when it comes from a transaction account or a savings account. It is a straight debit of your own money and no cash advance interest applies.

Paying a BPAY bill from a credit card is a different story, and it is now largely academic for gambling. Since June 2024, Australian law prohibits the use of credit cards, credit related products and digital currency for interactive gambling services offered to Australians. Even before that change, several banks treated BPAY from a credit card as a cash advance, which meant interest from day one and no interest free period. If you see a site telling you to fund a casino by credit card through BPAY, close the tab.

How much you can send

Banks apply a daily payment ceiling rather than a BPAY specific one. Common defaults sit between A$5,000 and A$25,000 per day, adjustable inside internet banking, sometimes needing a token or an app approval. Casinos then apply their own floor and ceiling, and those are the ones that bite.

Limit typeUsual rangeNotes
Casino minimum by BPAYA$20 to A$50Higher than the A$10 floor you get on PayID or vouchers
Casino maximum per paymentA$5,000 to A$10,000Larger amounts often need a manual approval
Bank daily ceilingA$5,000 to A$25,000Editable in your banking app, may require identity checks
Bonus qualifying depositA$20 to A$30Read the offer terms, some exclude bank rails entirely

That A$20 to A$50 minimum is the quiet drawback. If you like small stakes, a bank rail with a A$50 floor is a poor match, and you are better served by a site from our list of casinos with a low minimum deposit.

Raising your daily limit, and why it is rarely worth it

Every major bank lets you lift the ceiling inside internet banking or the app, usually under payment limits in the security settings. Commonwealth Bank, NAB, ANZ, Westpac and St George all handle it self service. Expect an SMS code, a token, or in some cases a wait until the next business day before the new limit applies.

Two warnings. A higher limit does nothing for speed, since the batch cycle is unchanged, so people who raise it hoping for a faster deposit are solving the wrong problem. And the casino ceiling usually bites first anyway, so check that number before you touch your banking settings at all.

BPAY against every other Australian payment option

This is the comparison most BPAY pages skip, because it does not flatter BPAY. Here it is anyway.

Where BPAY genuinely wins

Three situations, and they are narrow.

  • Your bank declines cards and PayID to gambling merchants, but lets bill payments through. This happens more than you would think, because a biller code does not carry a merchant category code the way a card transaction does.
  • You want a slow deposit on purpose. A two day delay is a real cooling off period, and some punters use it as a brake.
  • You want the transaction to read as a bill on a shared statement. It still shows the biller name, so this is partial privacy at best.

Where it loses badly

  • Nothing comes back out. BPAY has no outbound path for a casino, so your winnings leave by another road entirely.
  • Weekend deposits sit idle. Pay at 7pm on Friday and Tuesday morning is a realistic arrival.
  • Bonus clocks keep ticking. A 24 hour or 72 hour offer window can expire before your money lands, and support rarely backdates it.
  • Fewer sites accept it every year. PayID took most of the traffic after 2023.

BPAY, EFT, direct deposit and pay anyone are four different things

People use these terms as if they mean the same thing. They do not, and the confusion causes real mistakes at a cashier.

MethodWhat you enterWho starts the paymentSpeed
BPAYBiller code plus CRNYou push itOvernight batch, 1 to 2 business days
Pay anyoneBSB plus account numberYou push itSeconds on Osko, otherwise next business day
PayIDMobile number, email or ABNYou push itSeconds, any hour
Direct debitBSB, account number and an authorityThe business pulls itBusiness days, and it repeats
EFTNothing specific, it is a generic labelDepends what the site actually meansUnknown until you ask

A casino cashier that says EFT is telling you nothing. Ask support whether the option is a biller code, a BSB and account number, or a PayID, because the answer changes both the speed and whether the deposit will be traceable if it goes astray. Never authorise a direct debit to an offshore gambling site, since that hands over a standing permission to draw on your account.

Cancelling, reversing and refunding a BPAY payment

Short answer, you probably cannot cancel it. Once your bank has processed the instruction into a batch, the payment is on its way and there is no cancel button.

Scheduled payments are the exception. If you future dated it or set it up as recurring, you can delete it in the app up until the processing date, and nothing leaves your account.

For everything else there is the BPAY scheme error correction process. It exists for genuine mistakes, mainly a wrong amount, a wrong biller code, or a duplicate payment, and you start it by contacting your own bank rather than the casino. Recovery depends on whether the receiving biller agrees to return the funds, so it is a request and not a right. Expect weeks rather than days, and expect nothing if the biller simply says no.

A refund is a different mechanism. There the biller sends money back voluntarily, which for a casino normally means crediting your player balance instead of returning cash to your bank. That distinction catches people out when they want their money out of gambling entirely rather than sitting in a wallet they cannot easily empty.

Why a payment sits pending for days

Pending on your statement means your bank has taken the instruction and not yet settled it. That is normal for the first 24 hours. Past two business days, the likely causes are a weekend or public holiday in the middle, a payment made after cut-off, a CRN the casino cannot match, or a biller code that no longer belongs to an active arrangement.

The order to work through is simple. Check your own statement first to confirm the money actually left. Then send the casino the receipt number. Only after that does it make sense to open anything with your bank, because a payment investigation started too early gets closed as premature.

The withdrawal problem nobody puts in the headline

Every honest BPAY page has to say this early. You cannot cash out by BPAY. The rail only moves money towards a biller, and a casino paying you is the opposite direction. Pages that list BPAY under withdrawal methods are either recycling old copy or hoping you will not check.

So plan the exit before you deposit. Pick the withdrawal method during signup, get identity verification done while your BPAY payment is still in transit, and you will save yourself a wait later.

Withdrawal routeTime after casino approvalPractical notes
Tether on Tron or Polygon5 to 30 minutesCheapest and fastest, needs a wallet and an exchange to convert to AUD
Bitcoin20 to 60 minutesNetwork congestion is the only variable worth watching
PayIDMinutes to 24 hoursSupported at a growing minority of sites, ask support in writing first
Skrill or Neteller1 to 4 hoursWallet must be verified in your own name
Bank transfer1 to 3 business daysBatch processing again, so weekends add delay
Debit card refund2 to 5 business daysSlowest, and some issuers reject gambling credits

Approval time sits with the casino, not the payment rail. A site can hold a request for 24 hours of pending review no matter how quick the transfer is afterwards, and the ones that do this without telling you are the ones worth avoiding.

Making the deposit, step by step

Follow the order below. Skipping step two is the single most common cause of a delayed deposit.

  1. Open the casino cashier and select BPAY. If it is not listed there, it does not matter what the footer logos say.
  2. Copy the biller code and the CRN exactly. The CRN is generated for your account and it is not reusable across sites.
  3. Note the stated minimum. Paying less than the floor can leave funds unallocated for days.
  4. Open your bank app and choose pay a bill, or BPAY, depending on the wording your bank uses.
  5. Paste the biller code, then the CRN, then the amount in AUD.
  6. Check the processing date on the confirmation screen before you approve.
  7. Save the receipt number. Support will ask for it if the deposit goes missing.
  8. Complete identity verification while you wait, so the first withdrawal is not held up by document checks.

If the money does not arrive

Give it two full business days first. After that, send the casino your receipt number, the exact amount, the payment date and the CRN you used. Most mismatches are a mistyped CRN, and the fix takes a manual credit rather than a refund. If the casino cannot trace it within a week, raise it with your bank as a disputed BPAY payment and quote the same receipt.

When your money is actually playable

Punters ask how long a BPAY casino deposit takes and get told one to two business days, which is true and useless. What you want is the day and hour you can play. Work it backwards from your bank cut-off.

You payBank sends the batchCasino creditsRealistic playable time
Monday 10amMonday nightTuesday morningTuesday, about 24 hours later
Monday 8pm, after cut-offTuesday nightWednesday morningWednesday, roughly 36 hours
Friday 2pmFriday nightMonday morningMonday, three days on
Friday 9pmMonday nightTuesday morningTuesday, four days on
Saturday any timeMonday nightTuesday morningTuesday
Day before a public holidayNext business day nightThe day after thatAdd one full day to every row above

Anzac Day, Australia Day and the Easter run all add a day, and state holidays such as Melbourne Cup Day in Victoria or Labour Day in Western Australia can shift a batch even when the rest of the country is working. Plan deposits for a Monday or Tuesday morning if timing matters at all.

Mistakes that delay a BPAY deposit

Almost every stuck payment comes down to one of the following. None of them are your bank's fault, and none of them get fixed quickly.

  • Reusing an old CRN. The reference is generated per account and sometimes per deposit. A saved biller in your banking app will happily send money against a reference that no longer maps to anything.
  • Paying below the stated minimum. A A$20 payment against a A$50 floor can sit unallocated instead of bouncing, and nobody tells you.
  • Paying from an account in somebody else's name. Third party deposits breach the terms at every serious operator and trigger a manual review, sometimes a returned payment weeks later.
  • Transposing digits in the biller code. Most wrong codes fail validation in the bank app, but a valid code belonging to a different business does not, and recovering that money means a formal payment investigation.
  • Assuming the confirmation email means the balance is live. The casino sends that when it receives notice of the payment instruction, not when the funds settle.
  • Closing the account or withdrawing to a different name than the depositor. Verification will stop it, and you will spend a week on emails.

Screenshot the confirmation screen every time. The receipt number on it is the only thing that makes a trace possible, and banking apps hide old BPAY receipts after 90 days on some platforms.

Which Australian banks let casino payments through

No bank publishes a gambling policy for BPAY, and none will confirm one over the phone in a way you can rely on. What follows is the general pattern rather than a promise.

Bank or institutionBPAY availableAttitude to gambling payments
Commonwealth BankYesCard blocking tools available, bill payments generally processed
NABYesOptional gambling block on cards, bill payments generally processed
ANZYesSimilar position, card level controls
WestpacYesSimilar position, card level controls
INGYesConservative on card gambling transactions
Up and BendigoYesGambling category blocks are prominent in the app
MacquarieYesFewer published controls
BankwestYesFollows Commonwealth Bank group practice

Two things follow from this. If you have switched on a gambling block in your banking app, it usually targets card transactions and may not stop a BPAY payment, which is worth knowing if you turned it on for a reason. And if a payment is declined without explanation, the block is more likely to sit at the casino end or with the biller aggregator than with your own bank.

What happened to POLi, and why BPAY did not inherit the traffic

POLi Payments closed on 30 September 2023 after Australia Post wound the service up. For over a decade it had been the default instant bank deposit at offshore casinos. Its shutdown left a gap, and the obvious replacements were BPAY and PayID.

PayID won, and it was not close. Real time settlement beat overnight batching, the A$10 floor beat a A$50 one, and PayID needed no biller registration on the casino side. BPAY kept a small share among punters whose banks were awkward about card and PayID gambling transactions.

You will still find casino pages advertising POLi in 2026. That is stale marketing, and it tells you the rest of the page has not been checked either.

How we rank casinos for punters paying by bank

The table at the top of this page uses the same scoring we apply everywhere on this site, with extra weight on the parts that matter when your deposit takes two days.

CriterionWeightWhat we look at
Payout speed and approval time25 per centStated pending period, and whether it is honoured
Licence and operator history20 per centCuracao, Malta or Estonian licence, company name, years live
Cashier honesty15 per centWhether listed methods actually appear once you log in
Bonus terms15 per centWagering multiple, method exclusions, expiry windows
Game range10 per centStudio count, live tables, AUD table minimums
Support quality10 per centLive chat hours in Australian time zones, written answers on payments
Responsible gambling tools5 per centDeposit limits, self exclusion, reality checks

One caveat on that first row. Payment method support at offshore casinos is not stable, and a site accepting BPAY in March can drop it by August without announcing anything. The cashier after login is the only source that counts, and we say so rather than pretending our list is permanent.

Bonus terms and bank deposits

Promotions are written around instant payment methods. That creates three traps for anyone paying by BPAY.

The first is timing. A welcome offer that requires a deposit within 24 hours of registration can lapse while your payment sits in an overnight batch. Some support teams will honour it if you send the receipt; others will not, and you have no recourse.

The second is exclusion. A minority of offers exclude bank based deposits outright, usually buried in a clause about eligible payment methods. Read that clause before you send money, not after.

The third is the deposit floor. If the offer needs A$30 and the BPAY minimum is A$50, you are committing more than you planned. Anyone chasing value on a small budget should look at no deposit bonuses instead, where the payment rail is irrelevant because you are not funding anything yet.

Wagering maths worth doing once

A 40 times wagering requirement on a A$100 bonus means A$4,000 of turnover before withdrawal. Pokies normally count 100 per cent towards that. Table games often count 10 or 20 per cent, which turns the same target into A$20,000 to A$40,000 of betting. That is the difference between a weekend and a month.

Bonus amountWagering multipleTurnover on pokiesTurnover on tables at 10 per cent
A$5040xA$2,000A$20,000
A$10040xA$4,000A$40,000
A$20035xA$7,000A$70,000
A$40030xA$12,000A$120,000

What you can play once the deposit lands

Nothing about BPAY restricts the games. Once the balance is credited it behaves like any other cash, and the whole catalogue opens up.

Pokies carry the volume, with Pragmatic Play, Play'n GO, BGaming, NetEnt and Nolimit City behind most of the titles Australians actually spin. Return to player figures usually sit between 94 and 97 per cent, and the better cashiers now show RTP on the game thumbnail. If you want the free versions first, our page of pokies you can try for free covers that.

Beyond the reels, the mix is familiar. Blackjack with a A$1 table minimum, European and lightning roulette, baccarat, video poker, plus crash and dice titles that came over from the crypto side of the market.

Live dealer tables and slow deposits

Live tables punish a slow payment rail more than pokies do. Evolution and Pragmatic Play Live studios run scheduled game shows, and a two day deposit delay means missing whatever you planned around. If you play mostly in the live dealer rooms, keep a faster method on standby and treat BPAY as the top up rather than the main funding route.

Mobile deposits, and why the app flow helps here

BPAY suits phones better than it suits desktop. Your banking app already has the pay bill screen, biometric approval is two taps, and you can paste the CRN straight from the casino tab without touching a card number.

What it will not do is get you playing in the next minute. That constraint applies equally on mobile casino apps and browser sites, since the delay lives in the payment network rather than the device.

Sportsbooks, BPAY and the licensed side of the market

Here is a distinction worth understanding, because it explains most of the confusion around this topic.

Online sports betting with an Australian licensed corporate bookmaker is legal and regulated. Those operators hold state licences, they are listed with the regulator, and BPAY works normally with them because they are ordinary Australian businesses collecting ordinary Australian payments. Sportsbet, Ladbrokes and TAB all publish biller codes.

Online casino gaming is the other case. Under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, it is illegal to provide interactive gambling services to Australians, so every casino accepting Australian punters is based offshore. That is why their payment options look improvised, and why a biller code can disappear without notice. If sports is what you are actually after, the licensed bookmakers list is the relevant page.

What the law says about you as a player

The Act targets operators, not punters. The Australian Communications and Media Authority enforces it, and its tools are site blocking requests to internet providers and payment disruption requests to Australian financial institutions. Individual players are not prosecuted for placing bets.

The practical effect is the payment friction you have already noticed. Card declines, PayID rejections and vanishing biller codes are downstream of ACMA activity, not random glitches.

Security, and the parts of BPAY that are genuinely good

Give the rail its due on this front. You never hand card numbers to the casino, so there is nothing to leak. Authentication happens inside your own bank, under whatever two factor method you already use. The biller is registered, which means the receiving business has been through a verification process with an aggregator.

Compare that with a debit card deposit, where a 16 digit number, an expiry date and a CVV sit in somebody's payment gateway. On data exposure alone, BPAY is the safer of the two.

Where it is weak is reversibility. A card payment can be disputed through a chargeback. A BPAY payment, once batched, is close to final, and your bank's ability to recover it is limited to a payment investigation with no guaranteed outcome.

Identity checks, and how to get them out of the way early

Every serious operator runs know your customer checks before the first withdrawal. Doing them on day one costs you ten minutes. Doing them after a win costs you days of waiting while you are impatient.

Have these ready as clear photographs or PDFs.

  • Photo identification, normally an Australian driver licence or passport
  • Proof of address dated within three months, such as a utility bill or a bank statement
  • Proof of the payment method, which for BPAY means a bank statement showing your name and the payment out

Names must match across all three. A licence reading Michael and a bank account reading Mike is enough to trigger a manual review at some sites.

Alternatives if BPAY is missing from the cashier

This will happen. When it does, the ranking below reflects what actually works for Australian accounts in 2026.

Order of preferenceMethodWhy
1PayIDInstant, free, AUD native, and it is the closest thing to a default
2Tether or BitcoinFastest withdrawals by a wide margin, and immune to bank policy
3Neosurf voucherCash based and instant, though deposit only and you need a shop
4Skrill or NetellerWorks in both directions, but often voids the welcome offer
5Debit cardInstant when the issuer allows it, slow coming back
6Bank transferLast resort, slow at both ends

Punters who care mainly about withdrawal speed usually end up on the crypto side eventually, and our Bitcoin casino ranking covers the operators worth considering there.

Newer operators and the BPAY question

Sites launched in the last two years lean towards PayID and cryptocurrency, and many skip bill payment rails altogether. That is a reasonable commercial decision, since maintaining a biller arrangement for a small share of deposits is a lot of work.

The trade off is worth weighing. Newer brands often run better bonus terms and faster payouts, while established ones offer more payment choices and a longer track record. If bonus value matters more to you than the funding method, the newest casinos accepting Australians is the list to compare against this one.

Things about BPAY casinos that remain unresolved

An honest page ends with the parts that are still a mess.

Support answers are inconsistent. Ask two agents at the same casino whether BPAY is available and you can get two different replies, because payment availability is often managed by a team that does not talk to live chat. Get the answer in writing before you rely on it.

Nobody will tell you why a payment failed. Banks cite policy. Casinos blame the aggregator. The aggregator does not speak to players at all. When a BPAY deposit is rejected you usually get your money back in three to five business days and no explanation whatsoever.

Biller codes go stale. A code that worked last season may belong to a closed arrangement now, and paying it can leave funds in limbo while a manual trace runs. Always pull the code fresh from the cashier rather than from a saved biller in your banking app.

And the direction of travel is against BPAY. PayID keeps taking share, crypto handles the withdrawals, and every year a few more cashiers quietly drop the bill payment option. Treat it as a useful fallback for punters whose banks are difficult, not as a method to build your play around.

Free spins, bank deposits and the fine print

Spin offers attached to a first deposit are the most common promotion in this market, and they interact badly with slow funding. The spins are usually released in daily tranches, they expire within 24 to 72 hours of release, and winnings from them carry their own wagering multiple separate from the cash bonus.

Work out the real value before you deposit. Two hundred spins at A$0.20 is A$40 of turnover, not A$40 of money, and if the winnings carry a 40 times requirement the expected return is modest. Our page on free spins offers for Australian punters breaks down which structures are worth the effort.

Terms you will meet in the cashier

Payment pages are written for accountants. Here is the short version of the vocabulary.

A short comparison of two hypothetical cashiers

Say two casinos both accept BPAY, both hold a Curacao licence and both advertise a 200 per cent match. The offers look identical on a comparison table and they are not remotely equivalent.

DetailCasino ACasino BWhich is better
Wagering multiple35x on bonus only40x on deposit plus bonusA, by a wide margin

Two casinos with the same headline percentage, and one of them is close to unplayable if you fund by bank. This is the check worth running before you copy a biller code, and it takes about four minutes on the terms page.

Responsible gambling

Set a deposit limit inside the casino account before your first payment clears, not after. Most operators apply limit changes downwards immediately and upwards only after a cooling off period, which is the sensible way round.

If gambling has stopped being entertainment, these services are free and confidential in Australia.

  • Gambling Help Online, available 24 hours a day on 1800 858 858
  • BetStop, the national self exclusion register, which blocks licensed Australian operators from contacting you or accepting your bets
  • Bank level gambling blocks, available in the Commonwealth Bank, NAB, ANZ, Westpac, ING and Up apps

One limitation to understand about BetStop. It covers Australian licensed wagering providers. Offshore casinos are not connected to it, so registering will not block them, and the practical tool against those sites is a bank level block plus a self exclusion request sent to each operator directly.

Gambling costs money over time. The house edge on pokies runs between three and six per cent of every dollar wagered, and no payment method, deposit size or bonus structure changes that arithmetic.
